A spatula is a small kitchen tool with a broad, flat, flexible blade used to mix,
spread and lift materials including foods, drugs, plaster and paints.
It derives from the Latin word for a flat piece of wood or splint.

Who invented the spatula?
Nobody really knows, but the word spatula is known to have been used in English since 1525.

The "Weird Al" Yankovic comedy film UHF features an ad for a fictional outlet store called Spatula City that sells nothing but spatulas. The ad features people getting very excited over receiving spatulas, including children at Christmas and women getting them as romantic gifts.

Historical Spatula Facts:
In 1844, Sir Ricardo D'LunchStande III was an outspoken supporter of all spatulas throughout the world. He tried to make spatulas the common people's top choice of cooking utensils. He thought no other kitchen device had the pressing power of the spatula. Unfortunately for him, his views on spatulas displeased the then King Beef 'O Wellington the third and he was burned at the grill, immediately becoming the first spatula martyr.

In 1964, the spatula man was the first
kitchen utensil/human hybrid to leave
the earth's orbit, but sadly never made it back.
